Cofferdam structures for the Lena Bridge traveled 6,300 km from Tyumen to Yakutsk

100% of the metal structures for floating cofferdams have been delivered to the construction site of the bridge crossing over the Lena River in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The transportation of finished elements took several months, while the next elements were being produced in order to meet the tight construction schedule of the unique bridge.

The delivery of a total of 4,560 tons required over 280 heavy-duty trucks, each of which spent at least 10 days on the way from the plant to the site. The complex logistics scheme worked properly with no delays.

Floating cofferdams will be used for the first time in Russian bridge construction. Massive metal structures that exceed 17 meters in height will be pre-assembled on the shore and then transported by water to the installation site. Their main task is to create dry working areas in the riverbed for the construction of the three pylons that will support the superstructures. The challenging climatic and hydrological regional conditions required a special approach to cofferdam design - the structures are designed for significant loads during ice drift.

The construction of the bridge infrastructure is deployed on both banks of the Lena River. On the left, 100% of the work on the installation of bored piles for the first three bridge supports No. 4, 5, 6 has been completed, and on the right, drilling work has begun for support No. 29. A warehouse for inert materials is also being assembled here on the third technological site. A total of 216 people and 86 units of special equipment are employed at the site.

The construction of the Lena Bridge is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Russia. This is not merely the first bridge across the Lena in Yakutia, it is a critically important transport artery, thanks to which the capital of the republic will finally have a land connection with the rest of the region. Until now, neither passenger nor cargo transportation along the river is possible for 5-6 months a year - neither ferries nor winter roads are functioning. The project is being implemented thanks to the mechanism of public-private partnership. The concessionaire and investor is VIS Group, the concession grantor is the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
