“There are no examples of such construction in international practice. Much of it, from design solutions to the technologies used, is unique for our country and the world,” said Anton Krupnov, Director of VIS Group’s construction project. “The construction team comprises highly qualified specialists who participated in the construction of bridges across the Amur, Volga, Don rivers and to Russky Island.”
The work is currently being carried out in two shifts on both banks, with over 90 people employed at the sites. Journalists inspected the site of the bored piles installation, the reinforcement shop and the operating concrete plant. The production schedule provides for the installation of up to 50 bored piles for the bridge supports on the left bank by the end of the year, 16 of which have been installed to date. The builders have set a high pace - one pile per day. The length of the piles according to the project design varies from 10 to 40 meters underground.
“Today, there are no doubts that the plans announced a month ago will be fulfilled. Many production processes are running simultaneously. We did not wait for the builders to fully complete the formation of the production sites, including their fencing, but began the main cycle work. The construction deadlines set by the President of Russia dictate a special approach to all production processes, but the multi-stage system of monitoring of the work progress leaves no chance for any serious errors,” said Sergey Kozlovsky, Head of the Corporate Communications Department of VIS Group.
In the winter, work on the installation of foundation structures will continue. Special equipment – heated concrete mixers – is used to deliver concrete mix from the plants working on both banks of the Lena. Thanks to this, concrete will be delivered to the work sites at an operating temperature of +21°C even in extreme Yakut frosts, which reach -50°C. The concrete itself is also used with special modern anti-freeze additives.
Following the visit to the construction site, a briefing was held at the Sakhamedia media center, which was attended by representatives of the concessionaire and the concession grantor.
“Concessions, first and foremost, imply competencies. Regular direct contracts work when regular standardized facilities are being built. When there is a need for complex unique technical solutions, a more intricate level of development is required,” said the deputy The General Director is the Executive Director of the concessionaire company of the VIS Group, Regina Kuzmenko. - As you understand, the Lena Bridge is a unique project, at each stage requiring a search for technical solutions that are relevant specifically for Yakutia. For such a complex and large-scale project, we are moving at a fairly high pace, having entered the main construction stage this fall." The concession format also provides for much more profound multi-stage control, in contrast to a regular general contract. At all stages of the project, strict quality control of the work performed is conducted by the federal center, the republic, the financial partner and the concessionaire itself.
“The directorate was created to carry out certain powers of the Ministry of Transport of Yakutia for the project,” said Artem Artemyev, CEO of the State Institution of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) "Directorate for the Construction of the Lena Bridge". - We control both the construction work and the use of the provided financing. Our partner's competencies are apparent through the facilities they had previously built in Yakutia and in other regions of the country. In addition, we understand that the concessionaire is concerned with the highest-quality work performance, since after the completion of construction the company will be responsible for the operation of the bridge.”
The Lena Bridge is one of the largest infrastructure projects to date, which will go down in the history of bridge construction in Russia and the world. In addition, it is also one of the most long-awaited projects, which, without exaggeration, all residents of Yakutia are showing an interest in. At the end of the briefing, VIS Group’s head of the Corporate Communications Department Sergey Kozlovsky invited all journalists without exception to a dialogue and confirmed the holding's readiness to hold open meetings regularly.
