Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov assesses the readiness of the Mytishchi Chord

The construction of the Mytishchi High-Speed Chord is nearing completion in the Moscow Region. This concession project is being implemented under an agreement between the regional government and the investor, VIS Group. The highway will serve as a backup to the Moscow Ring Road and will ensure the redistribution of traffic flows to the Dmitrovskoye, Ostashkovskoye, Pirogovskoye and Yaroslavskoye highways. Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov assessed the readiness of the highway by driving along it.

“All our projects always have one goal – to improve people’s quality of life. We use all available mechanisms to achieve this: we try to get into federal programs and build a dialogue with businesses. The concession allows us to attract additional funds and implement expensive projects. The Mytishchi Chord is a striking example of such cooperation. The builders promised to launch this route in December, so that residents could feel the changes and see a noticeable improvement in the traffic situation before the end of the year,” Andrey Vorobyov noted.

Asphalt concrete pavement has been laid on 15 of the 16 kilometers of the main route. Work is in the final stage at all 6 interchanges. 9 of the 11 bridges and overpasses are ready for traffic, and work on the remaining ones will be completed in late October-early November. Workers are applying markings, installing road signs and road safety elements.

“The overall construction readiness of the Mytishchi high-speed chord is estimated at 95%, preparations are underway for the start of route operation. Currently, about 900 people and 200 units of equipment are engaged at the site; work is being carried out in two shifts. To ensure that the work proceeds as planned and to control adherence to deadlines, schedules have been developed for all engineering structures and types of work, safeguarding the deadline for highway commissioning in December 2024,” said Alexander Maksakov, VIS Group’s project director.

The construction of the accompanying road infrastructure is nearing completion. Construction work has been completed at 11 of the 13 local treatment facilities, and about 95% of the lighting lines have been installed. Preparations for the launch of traffic are in full swing. Under the terms of the concession agreement, VIS Group will ensure the technical and commercial operation of the road until 2032.

A barrier-free free flow payment system will operate on the expressway. An application has already been submitted to Avtodor State Corporation to link the facility to the interoperability system, which would include the Mytishchi Chord in Russia’s unified toll road system. This will allow payment for travel using transponders.

"The project is being implemented in line with production schedules, and through traffic along the road’s entire main route is already operating today. Soon, residents of the Moscow region will be able to travel faster and more comfortably along the new route, and the region will obtain another link in the emerging new transport system," said Sergey Yudin, CEO of VIS Group.

The Mytishchi high-speed chord is one of the largest highway projects in the Moscow region and the first transport concession in Russia implemented by private initiative.

The highway will improve transport accessibility for over a million residents of the Moscow region, significantly reducing travel time to Moscow.
