More than 20 students of the Siberian State University of Railways have completed practical training at the construction site of a bridge across the Ob River in Novosibirsk. All of them are 3rd and 4th-year students at the Bridges and Tunnels faculty, thus, the chance to work on this large-scale construction site, rather than just visit it, was regarded by many as an invaluable experience.
The trainees familiarized themselves with the construction of a very complex transport infrastructure facility, and worked as assistants to construction and installation foremen, surveyors, technicians, concrete workers in integrated teams that install monolithic reinforced concrete structures.
The fourth bridge is the largest road concession in Siberia. It will connect Yuzhnaya Square with Labor Square and run parallel to the existing railway crossing. The large-scale project involves the construction of a six-lane highway with multi-level interchanges, which will eliminate traffic lights and ensure the continuity of traffic flows. In addition to the bridge itself, several overpasses will be built across the city tram lines and the Trans-Siberian Railway. The total span of all facilities will exceed 5 kilometers.
The concession project will significantly improve the traffic conditions in Novosibirsk. The new bridge with a 114-meter high pylon will not only improve the transport accessibility of the city districts divided by the river; it will also become an architectural landmark of the Siberian capital.
