Over 2 million cars drove along Khabarovsk Bypass

Since traffic was launched, 2,104,383 vehicles have passed along the first expressway in the Russian Far East. Khabarovsk Bypass is VIS Group’s first concession project in the transport sector. The road was built with co-financing from the federal budget in order to unload the roads in the regional capital from the transit transport flow.

The highway was opened to traffic in July 2022, now the average daily traffic is about 6,000 cars; an increase in the number of vehicles coincided with the onset of warm weather, especially on the weekends. Khabarovsk residents appreciated the convenience of the new infrastructure - more than 80% of the traffic is made up of personal autos.

In order to attract additional freight transport, work is underway to set up fare payment using transponders. Contactless payment was not provided for by the concession agreement, but this opportunity was laid down during route construction. All the infrastructure required for this has been created by VIS Group: lanes for vehicles with transponders are equipped at each of the 5 toll collection points. The system, including the installed hardware and specialized software, is currently being tested.

From May 26 to August 26, an automatic weight and size control point will start operating in test mode at one of the sections of the Khabarovsk Bypass. The system will record vehicles that exceed the permitted standards. It is part of an intelligent traffic control system that includes radar sensors for accident detection, video surveillance systems, monitoring traffic flow parameters and meteorological conditions, and photo and video recording of traffic violations. To ensure traffic safety, 43 poles with electronic information boards and controlled traffic signs were installed along the entire length of the route.

Khabarovsk Bypass is VIS Group’s flagship road concession. Under the terms of the concession agreement, the holding will operate the road until the end of 2031. The length of the main course of the route is 27.1 km, and the total length of the created transport infrastructure is 52.8 km. The high-speed highway passes through 24 bridges and overpasses, 5 transport interchanges have been built.
