VIS Group receives a positive conclusion from Main Department of State Expertise on the design documentation for the third stage of construction of the Lena Bridge

FAI Glavgosexpertiza of Russia issued a positive conclusion on the design documentation for the last (third) stage of construction of the bridge across the Lena River in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It provides for the creation of a car approach on the left bank and the integration of the bridge infrastructure into the existing street and road network. The project is being implemented under a concession agreement between the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and OOO Eighth Concession Company, which is part of the VIS Group. Financing is provided by federal and regional budgets and extra-budgetary investments. The financial partner of the concession is Sber.

As part of the third stage, it is planned to build a road more than 4 km long with a two-lane roadway and a bridge over the Khatynnakh stream. The project also provides for the installation of noise protection screens, modern local treatment facilities and a water drainage system. The implementation of this stage will ensure the connection of the Lena Bridge with the local road network, including the construction of access roads to Lesnaya and Molodezhnaya streets and other sections of the road network of the Staraya Tabaga village with a total length of about 800 m.

Obtaining a positive conclusion from the Main State Expertise for the third stage finalized the development of design documentation for a large-scale infrastructure project, which today has no analogues in global bridge construction. The bridge in Yakutia will have a strategic impact on the development of the transport system not only of Russia’s largest region, but also of the entire Russian Far East. It will connect three federal and five regional highways, and provide transport accessibility to the railway, airport and river port.

The construction of the Lena Bridge is one of the key infrastructure development initiatives in Russia. The project was supported by Vladimir Putin back in 2019; the creation of the bridge is provided for by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 09.11.2019 No. Pr-2308. It is included in the National Program for the Development of the Far East.

Construction work began several years ago. VIS Group relocated utility networks and power lines falling within the construction zone. These activities were carried out as part of the project’s first stage, which received a positive conclusion from the state expert review in 2022. In September 2023, the Main State Expert Review issued a positive conclusion following the review of the design documentation for the main stage, which includes the bridge crossing over the Lena River and the right-bank approach to it. The first bored pile for the bridge support was poured with concrete on October 17, 2024. To date, the piles for the first two supports are completely ready, with a total of 56 bored piles already installed. Preparations for work in the riverbed have begun, metal structures for floating cofferdams are being delivered to the site. It will be the first time they will be used in Russia to construct cable-stayed bridge pylons.

The length of the three-pylon cable-stayed bridge will be 4.6 km, and the entire highway will span 14.5 km. The transport artery will be two-lane with an estimated capacity of 5,300 cars per day.
