VIS Group announces 85% construction readiness of the fourth bridge across the Ob at the Siberian Transport Forum

The role of Siberia as one of the most important transport hubs in its relations with the countries of the Eastern Hemisphere became the main subject of discussion on the second day of the Siberian Transport Forum in Novosibirsk. It was attended by Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin and Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrey Travnikov. After the end of the plenary session, they toured the exposition that presents transport projects and companies.

The tour started at VIS Group’s stand. The bridge across the Ob is one of the largest concessions and transport construction projects in Siberia. The implementation of the project will enable the creation of an infrastructural framework in Novosibirsk, allowing for a major modernization of the entire transport network. Sergey Yudin, VIS Group’s First Deputy CEO, and Vladislav Vavilin, Deputy CEO of the holding's Construction Division, informed the Assistant to the President of Russia and the Governor about the current status of project implementation.

“Today, the overall construction readiness of the bridge and automobile approaches is estimated at 85%; over 1,300 specialists and about 200 units of special equipment are working on both banks of the Ob,” said Sergey Yudin. “The work is being carried out in accordance with the terms approved by the concession. We plan to launch working traffic on the bridge before the end of this year.”

The implementation of the bridge concession has become one of the central topics of interest to journalists at the forum, and the Group's stand is one of the most visited. Before the start of the plenary session, Sergey Kozlovsky, Head of the Corporate Communications Department of the VIS Group, spoke live on the OTS TV channel about what the new bridge would bring to Novosibirsk. “The new bridge is not only an alternative route from one bank to another that will completely change the traffic pattern in the left-bank part of the city,” Sergey Kozlovsky shared. “It also entails a complete renewal of engineering networks that have fallen into the construction zone, and the development of urban areas adjacent to the new road in the future. After traffic is launched, the existing road network will be significantly unburdened, and Novosibirsk residents will definitely notice this effect.”

During the exhibition, several dozen forum participants and journalists from regional media were able to assess the degree of readiness of the bridge for themselves at VIS Group’s stand, using VR technology to observe the construction site from the height of the 114-meter pylon, and also learned in detail about the structure of the cable-stayed system of the new bridge.

“The cable-stayed bridge being built in Novosibirsk is unique in its kind. The design of both the pylon and the cable-stayed system is not typical, but was developed individually for a specific channel clearance and a specific span length. Today, about 40% of the total number of cables has already been tightened, and the work is proceeding according to the schedule,” said Vladislav Vavilin. “The new bridge crossing is ‘fitted’ into the existing system of the city’s street and road network, taking into account the security zone of the Trans-Siberian Railway, which is why the bridge crossing is not straight, but curved. It is a large-scale and technically complicated job to build a bridge within the existing radius.”

Today, builders are laying the pavement on different sections of the future motorway, constructing transport interchange overpasses and exits, laying two tunnels under the Trans-Siberian Railway, and reconstructing and modernizing engineering networks. The construction of the fourth bridge across the Ob in Novosibirsk is currently one of the largest concessions on the eastern side of the Urals. VIS Group is the project’s investor and concessionaire.
