VIS Group completed installation of cable-stayed bridge system in Novosibirsk

The cable-stayed system of the bridge over the Ob River was completed in Novosibirsk today. All 35 pairs - 70 cables have been installed. The work was carried out in parallel on the left and right posts of the 114-meter pylon and was completed in the planned time.

"The installation of the cable-stayed system began in the first days of May with the pair tensioning of the shortest cables. The complexity and uniqueness of this technological process are related to the location of cable-stayed spans. The bridge over the Ob River has several curves, so the spans are also located on a curve, and the part going towards Ippodromskaya Street is also on a rise," said Vladislav Vavilin, Deputy General Director of the Construction Division of VIS Group.

The cable-stayed section of the bridge crossing, 380 meters long, starts at the bank of the Ob River and ends behind the operating highway overpass, passing over it. The total length of 70 cables is about nine kilometers. The longest of them - 235 meters, the shortest - 63 meters. Thanks to the cable-stayed system of the bridge on the right bank of the river, the "Urban Beginning" park and recreation areas on Mikhailovskaya embankment will be preserved, and the capital of Siberia will have a new architectural dominant in the city center.

Concreting of the roadway slab was carried out in parallel with cable-staying. The total weight of the cable-stayed section of the bridge is more than 21 thousand tons. The cables installed on the pylon of the bridge crossing are made of parallel strands, the number of which is from 25 to 59, depending on the length of the cable. Each consists of 7 strands. They will ensure the rigidity of the bridge structure - it will be able to withstand an earthquake with an amplitude of up to 7 points and the passage of 100-ton trucks.

"Installation of the cable-stayed system is one of the key stages of the bridge crossing construction. Completion of this phase will allow us to start laying asphalt on the cable-stayed section, installing guardrails and painting the pylon. After completion of the roadbed construction works, the cable-stayed section will be completed and adjusted to the design values. The completion of this stage is one of the most significant events of the project," commented Sergey Yudin, First Deputy General Director of VIS Group.

The fourth bridge across the Ob River in Novosibirsk is one of the most significant and large-scale infrastructure projects in Russia. The bridge crossing will relieve the existing road network and give impetus to the development of the adjacent urban areas. An alternative route from one bank to the other will increase transportation accessibility for residents of the parts of the city divided by the river, and will make it possible to get to Tolmachevo airport faster.

The Ob River bridge crossing project is one of the largest concessions in the Russian transportation sector. The investor and concessionaire is VIS Group, and the concessor is the Government of the Novosibirsk Region represented by the Ministry of Transportation and Roads. Capital expenditures for construction are financed from the federal and regional budgets, as well as from the investor's funds.
