VIS Group submits the revised part of the Lensky Bridge project in Yakutia for consideration by Glavgosexpertiza

The joint work of specialists from project concessionaire VIS Group, the Giprostroymost Institute - St. Petersburg, and the Federal Autonomous Institution Glavgosexpertiza of Russia and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) allowed to amend the project documentation for the construction of a bridge across the Lena River and optimize capital expenditures. To speed up the start of the project, the second stage was separated, including the channel part of the bridge and the right-bank approach to it. The documentation for this part of the project has been submitted for consideration to the Federal Autonomous Institution Glavgosexpertiza of Russia and has already passed entrance control.

Previously, the first, preparatory stage was singled out in the project and received a positive conclusion from the state expertise, which made it possible to conduct a set of works to prepare the construction site and remove utilities. The routing along the left bank of the Lena has been singled out as a separate third stage and the pertinent design work continues. This will allow to begin its implementation after receiving a positive conclusion from the Glavgosexpertiza on the second stage.

“We have done a lot of work to find optimal design solutions for the channel section of the bridge and the approach to it from the right bank of the Lena. The adjustment was made in the length of the overpass, taking into account the preservation of the bridge’s culvert capacity, reducing the number of piles for overpass support foundations, and reducing the height and width of the embankment subgrade. All this allowed to significantly reduce construction costs. The exact cost of capital expenditures for the second stage submitted for consideration will be determined based on the results of the state expertise,” said Sergei Romashov, member of VIS Group’s Board of Directors.

Hydrologists from M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, experts of the State Hydrological Institute, and Russia’s leading scientific center in hydraulic engineering construction and operation of hydraulic facilities - the All-Russian B.E. Vedeneev Research Institute of Hydraulic Engineering.

The project is being implemented within the framework of Federal Law 115-FZ based on a concession agreement concluded by the Government of Yakutia with a consortium of Rostec State Corporation and VIS Group in February 2020. The Giprostroymost Institute - St. Petersburg is the general designer. The main design solutions have been determined, including the three-pylon cable-stayed bridge structure. The bridge crossing spans 4.6 km, and the estimated car traffic is over 5,000 vehicles per day. The total length of the new transport infrastructure will be about 15 km.

The Lensky Bridge will be the first in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and will connect the Trans-Siberian and Baikal-Amur Railways with the Northern Sea Route, creating a major logistics hub that includes aviation, rail and road transport. The new bridge will connect the federal Lena and Kolyma highways with the Vilyui highway, that is, in fact, the Eastern part of Russia with the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. It will form the Eastern Siberia - Mirny - Yakutsk - Magadan northern latitudinal belt and provide year-round transport accessibility for 87% of Yakutia’s population. The cargo transportation volume is projected to grow to 6 million tons, passenger traffic - up to 8 million people a year. The project is included in Russia’s road construction plan for 2023-2027 and the National Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the Russian Far East.
